WHITE PLAINS, NY — November 21, 2019 — Westchester County District Attorney Anthony A. Scarpino, Jr. announced that Tasjawn “Tay” White of Mount Vernon, NY, DOB: 01/13/1999,  pleaded guilty to the murder of Donovan Brown on Macquesten Parkway in Mount Vernon, NY,  on March 14, 2018.

With pretrial hearings underway in Westchester County Court, White pleaded guilty to the following:

·        Murder in the First Degree, a class A-1 felony

·        Attempted Murder in the Second Degree, a class B violent felony

·        Robbery in the First Degree, a class B violent felony

Westchester County Court Judge George Fufidio presided. White is scheduled for sentencing Jan. 15, 2020.

Background

On the night of March 13, 2018, and the early hours of March 14, 2018, Tasjawn “Tay” White was involved in a series of incidents including an initial robbery and subsequent attempted robbery which resulted in the shooting of Donovan Brown and his ultimate death.

The events related to the indictment took place in the industrial and residential neighborhoods not far from the Mount Vernon West Metro North train station on Macquesten Parkway. The shooting took place outside 15 S. Macquesten Parkway.

Determined detective work by Mount Vernon Police, with the help of video surveillance from security cameras throughout the area, allowed police and prosecutors to trace the steps taken by the defendant and victim for several hours leading up to the shooting and immediately following it.

Cases against two other defendants are still pending.

Mount Vernon Police Detectives led the investigation. Deputy District Attorney Perry Perrone, Chief of the Homicide Bureau, and Bureau Chief Assistant District Attorney Michelle Lopez of the Superior Court Trial Division prosecuted the case.
