YONKERS, NY — October 7, 2019 — Non-medical exemptions to school vaccination requirements have ended for children attending day care and pre-K through 12th grade in New York State. This includes all public, private, and religious schools. Religious exemptions are no longer allowed.

Children with non-medical exemptions must now be vaccinated to attend or remain in school.

Students who already have all required school vaccinations, and students with a valid medical exemption from a physician, are not affected by this change.

A medical exemption is allowed when a child has a medical condition that prevents them from receiving a vaccine.

Important vaccination deadlines

  • Within 14 days of the first day of school or day care – children must receive the first age-appropriate dose in each immunization series to attend or remain in school or day care.
  • Within 30 days after the first day of school or day care – parents or guardians must show that they have appointments for the next required follow-up doses for their child. Deadlines for follow-up doses depend on the vaccine.

What vaccines does my child need?

  • Talk to your health care provider. They will help determine which vaccines your child may need. Requirements will differ based on your child’s age and whether they have had any previous shots. Your child will probably not receive all required vaccinations in one visit.

Vaccines required for day care, pre-K, and school attendance

  • Diphtheria and Tetanus toxoid-containing vaccine and Pertussis vaccine (Dtap/DTP/Tdap)
  • Hepatitis B vaccine
  • Measles, Mumps and Rubella vaccine (MMR)
  • Polio vaccine (IPV/OPV)
  • Varicella (Chickenpox) vaccine
  • Meningococcal conjugate vaccine (MenACWY)
  • Haemophilus influenzae type b conjugate vaccine (HiB)
  • Pneumococcal Conjugate vaccine (PCV)

I do not know Zehy’s party affiliation presently. He was years ago a registered Republican. I do not know Fran’s party affiliation. Whether Democrats, Republican or other affiliation, those who guide any political contest need not adhere to one dogma or the other, though some people are more comfortable with campaign managers being ascribed to the same party affiliation as the candidate. It is not a requirement. The knowledge of those engaged in a campaign effort can strategize all they want. At the end, the candidate must do all possible to reach out to as many voters as possible. Understanding demographics, the political leanings of a particular district, among other aspects of a successful campaign effort are important but they can not and do not negate the personal outreach by a candidate, shaking hands, and reasserting concepts and ideas that define, even redefine evolving thinking commensurate with changing moods and demeanor. That is the winning formula. Not easily accomplished, but a necessary ingredient that cannot be eclipsed. — Kindly, Hezi

  1. Rumor on the street is Khader doesn’t give his kids immunizations. That’s his “right” I guess but his choices shouldn’t put my children in harms way. Why doesn’t he home school his kids so mine can be safe from whatever they are carrying.

    All The Way Up!

  2. Has anyone checked whether Council President Khader, Councilman Rubbo or Councilwoman Pineda’s kids have been inoculated before they attended Yonkers Public Schools?

  3. Arabic or Irish has nothing to do with anything. My point was that if he can say that he knows who these children are (sic) I’m sure he knows what nationality they are as well. My children are not school age any longer, however, I don’t remember it being okay to release information on medical records to a reporter. If this happened, as this article suggest. It’s wrong in my most humble opinion.

No one released any reports to this reporter, and not likely to anyone else. I have been in Yonkers for 20 years. You can be assured I know quite a bit about a lot of people and their children and their demeanor with respect to whether they believe in inoculations or not. Nothing nefarious here. I have knowledge because I listen and read and because I am interested. It is not more complex than that. Kindly, Hezi

  4. You write;
Many Parents / Guardians of School Age Children Who Are Considered Members of the “Friends and Family” Network Are Not Immunized. Will They Comply With New York State Law? If They Do Not, Will the City of Yonkers Be Liable?

How would one find out this information? Do you have inside information on this as you suggest? Would the person you are speaking of be of Arabic decent as well as a Irish one? Facts only please.

  5. Welcome to the most corrupt town in the Northeast. What’s that phrase that the Mayor uses, “ Welcome to Generation Yonkers” a town full of degenerate politicians, scammers, and crooks.

  6. This law should be enforced by the district medical office. This is ludicrous that there are over a thousand kids not immunized.

  7. Vaccinations whether you’re a fan of them or not is the law. If you have a religious exemption just go ask the Hasidic Community how that worked. Measles returned last year because of parents not vaccinating their children. The law now requires that all children be vaccinated and if not they will not be allowed to join the vaccinated children. If I had concerns as a parent I would ask my pediatrician. If you are holistic ask your Shaman.

      1. Nothing is up to the “think of the children” teachers or their union. They are a bunch of overpaid self centered union thugs.

  8. Hezi,
Vaccines have been proven for decades to prevent diseases and prolong life. Vaccines are safe and thousands of studies have proven that. Small Pox and Polio are no longer in existence because of vaccinations. I dont see what the problem is? Its a rule across the state and we as parents must oblige to this.

  9. Stupid law. Who the hell are these politicians to tell a parent what they need to do?!? Utter nonsense. And who are the children? Are you claiming to know medical information on certain children?

Over 1,000 students are not inoculated. That is all I am saying. I do not know the specific amesof all these students. The tally is correct. Whether it is one or 1,000your point is what? If you believe all kids must be immunized then you have to question why so many are not. If kids are not immunized and you have no issues with regard to that reality, you need not be concerned.Perhaps it is the number that are not innoculated that has you spinning out of control. It seems you know more than you suggest. Perhaps you would like to share the number of students who are not immunized. Perhaps your number will be more correct that’s mine. Do us all a favor ad get us on the right track… what is. The correct number? I have a feeling you know. Whyt not put the Yonkers Tribune to shame. It would be a feather in your cap. Don’t you agree? You never know, you may get a mea culpa from me. Capiche? — Kindly, Hezi
