Welcome to “News & Notes,” where we look at the happenings here in Westchester County…

WESTCHESTER COUNTY, NY —  February 24, 2020 — How about some thoughts on the marvelous month of March…I hope we all get through the Ides of March with no ill effects; we remember to spring ahead on March 8 at 2am; and survive the green beer on St. Patrick’s Day. Cheers to this week’s “March Madness” edition of “News & Notes.”

Talk about March Madness, this team is tons of fun, as the Harlem Wizards are returning to John Jay High School on Saturday, March 7th  from 4 to 6 p.m. with proceeds supporting the John Jay Boosters Club.

White Plains-based Star Boxing has a knockout night set for February 28 at the Paramount in Huntington, Long Island as Cletus “The Hebrew Hammer” Seldin will defend his NABA Super Lightweight Title against Colombian veteran Humber Martinez and the card just got even better as former world title challenger, and highly regarded world rated heavyweight, Carlos Takam will make his second appearance in the United States under the Star Boxing banner when he takes on Fabio Maldonando.

The gang at Neighbor to Neighbor in Pound Ridge has put a call out for decorations and centerpieces for the annual St. Patrick’s Day luncheon which will be held on March 12th at Conant Hall, for more information please call 914-764-8201.

“It’s the most wonderful time of the year, no not Christmas, but the Hudson Valley Restaurant Week with more than 200 restaurants in Dutchess, Greene, Orange, Putnam, Rockland, Sullivan, Ulster and Westchester counties participating in the Spring 2020 food fest from Monday, March 16th through Sunday, March 29th.  Chefs will feature their best dishes by way of three-course, prix-fixe lunch ($22.95) and dinner ($32.95) menus.  Our local restaurants include:  Sette e Venti, Le Fontane, and the Inn at Pound Ridge by Jean-Georges.

On March 1st at 12 Noon the Katonah Museum of Art’s Teen Council presents the Young Artists Market, an event that is uniquely teen-made and teen-driven.  Over 25 high school artist vendors will present and sell their art and gift items throughout the day.  Come to shop for jewelry, paintings, ceramics and creative handmade goods of all kinds.  Pay what you wish admission.  This event is free and open to the public.

Our friends at Resorts World Catskills will be rockin’ the house on Friday, March 27th when they present the band Styx who are entering their second decade of averaging over 100 shows a year and each one of them is committed to making the next show better than the last. Styx draws from over four decades of barn burning chart hits, joyous singalongs, and hard-driving deep cuts.

My dancing feet just could not be stopped, even though my wife tried as we enjoyed the Westchester Broadway Theatre’s presentation of the musical “All Shook Up.”  Set to the hits of the King of Rock and Roll himself, Elvis Presley, this musical will have you dancing in your “Blue Suede Shoes” all night long. Inspired by Shakespeare’s “Twelfth Night,” the music is all Elvis, and the result is a night of hilarious and enchanting 1950s fun, the show runs from March 5th through May 3rd.

I would like to wish everyone a very happy and safe St. Patrick’s Day… “May the road rise to meet you, may the wind be always at your back, may the sun shine warm upon your face, and the rains fall soft upon your fields’” See you all soon.
