SEIU 32BJ Endorses Engel for Re-Election, Cite Congressman’s Strong Support for ‘Pro-Worker Agenda’

Congressman Eliot Engel is the U.S. Representative for New York’s Congressional District 16.

NEW YORK, NY — March 7, 2020 — The members of SEIU 32BJ, the largest property services union in the country, have once again announced their support for Congressman Eliot Engel for re-election in New York’s 16th Congressional District.

“Our members are focused on candidates who have proven their commitment to fighting for issues that will make our communities stronger and promoting issues that will improve the lives of working people in New York, including needed reforms for economic, immigrant, racial and climate justice,” said 32BJ President Kyle Bragg. “Eliot is fighting for a national $15 minimum wage and protections for Dreamers and TPS holders. We strongly support his re-election and look forward to Eliot continuing his vital work in Congress to advance a pro-worker agenda.”

“32BJ is one of the most politically active and progressive unions in the country, so their support in this election means everything to me,” said Congressman Engel. “Together, we’ll continue to fight for workers’ rights in New York and around the country. We are always stronger as a society when labor is strong. I’m honored to have their endorsement.”

SEIU 32BJ represents about 85,000 members in New York, who work as residential porters, doormen and women, window washers, office cleaners, security officers, airport wheelchair attendants, school janitors and other building service jobs.

Congressman Eliot Engel (D-NY) is seeking re-election in the 16th District of New York, including the North Bronx and southern Westchester. The son of a union ironworker born in the Bronx and raised in public housing, Rep. Engel is a major progressive Democratic leader who chairs the Foreign Affairs Committee and has fought for the rights of women, organized labor, immigrants, our minority communities, and LGBTQ Americans for three decades.
