Officer Down: Yonkers Police Department Det. William Sullivan, Sr.

YONKERS, NY — July 27, 2020 — It was on July 27, 1965 when William and Marie (Grady) Sullivan begat William J. Sullivan. Alas it was less than 4 months ago when he was taken from our world. We remember him on the day of his birth. He would grow to embody and epitomize the best of Yonkers. A gargantuan man of quiet confidence, a great soul, whose last breath was his gift to the living, protecting them to the very end. He exacted respect from all who luckily entered his world. As big as he was hw was always welcoming, never threatening, a man of great wisdom few would recognize.

His family was his life and he sacrificed all for them in a forthright and upstanding manner. His legacy remains engraved in people’s heart and soul. He was special and he so remains. He was one a good man; one of Yonkers righteous. Rest In Peace Sully.

  1. May he Rest In Peace and I extend Johnnylimo my condolences as this is a very difficult day for him… Johnnylimo was very close friends with Sully

  2. Rest well brother Bill. You have many friends and served the City of Yonkers well. I was proud to know and work with you. Too bad the Yonkers PBA turned their back on you. The City of Yonkers Police Department did not deserve to have you.
    Happy birthday brother in blue.
