Welcome to “News & Notes,” where we look at the happenings here in Westchester County…

Manhattanville Sport Business Management Chairman Mark Jeffersr is a Bedford Hills resident.

WESTCHESTER COUNTY, NY —  July 3, 2020 — We are on our way to the beaches of old Cape Cod for our annual family vacation.  Six feet away, sunburn, soggy clothes, and sandy sandwiches, can’t wait…if I’m not eaten by a shark please enjoy this week’s “Vacation is all I ever wanted” edition of “News & Notes.”

Our friends at the Community Center of Northern Westchester have free adult sized masks, sewn by volunteers available.  The Center urgently needs reusable bags and paper grocery bags to pre-pack and distribute food.  They also are now accepting summer clothing donations, you may drop off your summer clothing donations near the back gate of the Center in the bin marked clothing donations and take a donation receipt.

Thank you to the Katonah Chamber of Commerce for providing a banner thanking essential workers, and to NYSEG for installing the banner.

I had a doctor appointment the other day and the good folks at CareMount Care in Katonah were well set up with Covid 19 protocols, met a nice receptionist, who took my temp. with a cool non-contact infrared thermometer and then I checked in and waited outside for a call, then came in saw my doctor and even passed my physical, although, I think the nurse had her thumb on the scale when she read out loud my current weight…

Everyone in the pool! That’s right, the three town pools will open Friday, July 3. Here’s a fun warning, while movie binging do not, repeat, do not watch the caddie pool scene from “Caddyshack,” it was a candy bar!

By the way, the town is looking for additional lifeguards. If you have certification in lifeguard training/first aid and CPR for the professional rescuer you are eligible for one of the jobs.

Along with the pools, we are happy to announce that the playgrounds in the hamlet parks are now open.  Parks staff will clean and prep the playgrounds for the reopening, the town asks all users to continue to follow the social distancing protocols and the requirement of wearing masks when unable to maintain that distance. Hand hygiene is also very important, so the town encourage all playground visitors to sanitize their hands before and after utilizing the playground equipment.

My friend Brandon Steiner is offering a very cool collection from our alma mater Syracuse University’s Carrier Dome roof, check this out for details:

As our schools begin their graduation celebrations, I want to take the opportunity to congratulate all the Elementary, Middle and High School graduates (and their parents!) in the Bedford Central and Katonah-Lewisboro School Districts, wishing you all the best!

I’m starting to call my wonderful wife “Mr. Green Jeans,” as she is so excited to see the local Farmers Markets re-open, John Jay Homestead is open Saturdays and Muscoot Farm is open on Sundays. You must register, wear a mask and keep a proper social distance at both locations.

Still not happy with the phrase, “new normal,” it may be new, but no way near normal…stay safe and stay well…

As the Westchester area continue to re-open, we hope you and your family are doing well and are safe! To those essential personnel who are on the job, health care workers, first responders, truck drivers, grocery store workers, anyone out there on the front line, thank you for your dedication, your service and being there for all of us!
