FLOWER MOUND, TX — AUGUST 28, 2020 — The term “racist” has been tossed around so often and so frivolously that it has lost its effect as a true statement about bigotry. If you’re white and you haven’t been called a racist, you’re either afraid to disagree with blacks on any issue, or you just have no contact with blacks in person or on social media, which, incidentally, probably means you’re a racist. For the purposes of this column I’m going to only address what occurs during dialogue on social media. Before I begin I want to recall what Mike Tyson said, “Social media made y’all way too comfortable with disrespecting people and not getting punched in the face for it.”

There’s more than a bit of honesty in that statement because some people have a level of keyboard courage that they couldn’t imagine having in a face-to-face confrontation. Even if you left out the violent aspect of it, most people would decline to engage in a heated debate about race during a family gathering or a dinner party with friends. However, once you sit in front of that computer, communicating from afar, you can figuratively take jabs at your opponents without fear of physical retaliation. Hence, if you live in Maine and caustically disagree online with someone from the west coast, you’re unlikely to end up with a fat lip.

Nonetheless, you might get your reputation distorted and smeared by some fanatic sitting in a dark room, hovering over a dusty, beer-stained keyboard, pounding out a plethora of hate-filled accusations against your character, while his mother is yelling in the background for him to get a job. Moreover, the cretin might find a way to use the Internet to attack your employer for having such a “racist” in his company, thereby jeopardizing ITALICIZE your ITALICIZE employment. Inasmuch as we’ve arrived at a time in our history in which being called a racist is tantamount to being labeled a child molester, it has become weaponized by the left as a way to control speech.

For example, if you’re well-versed on the politics of the day and articulate enough to make a good argument against the systemic racism myth, those who live prosperously off the long-expired race card  will view you as a threat to their bank account. One of the tactics often used is to challenge you with, “Are you saying that racism doesn’t exist?” That’s like the guy with a 5-pound ham under one arm and a loaf of bread under the other challenging you with, “Are you saying that hunger doesn’t exist?” Either question puts you on the defensive because it seeks an answer that is obvious, while seeming to win the argument for the questioner. The world has never been able to completely wipe out racism or hunger. Nevertheless, the USA has done a better job with each than any country in history.

But, don’t expect that logic to placate the race-baiter, since his/her future is inextricably tied to the dividing of America. I like what actor Morgan Freeman said during an interview with CNN’s Don Lemon a few years ago. “Do you think that race plays a part in wealth distribution or a mindset that you can’t make it in America?” asked the left-wing commentator. Freeman, without hesitation, responded, “Today? No, I don’t. You and I, we’re proof. What would race have to do with it? Put your mind to what you want to do and go for it.” Freeman is also quoted as saying, “If you want to end racism, stop talking about it?”

The Academy Award-winning thespian is not likely to get any awards from the Black Lives Matter or Antifa terrorists who can only exist if they force everyone to, not only talk about race, but submit to the threats of thugs who demand that whites admit to their bigotry or be beaten and killed on the streets of our cities. Using a level of twisted reasoning, that would make any sane person cringe, those violent louts, who raucously proclaim their fight against racism, will assault anyone they see with white skin. Therefore, they are engaging in what they fraudulently declare they are against, racial stereotyping. It’s a tragic sort of irony that so many whites, who have fought for civil rights, free speech and other Constitutional verities their entire lives, now find their reputations, if not their safety, being threatened whenever they try to exercise them.

  1. Nice one, Hezi. On the 57th anniversary – to the day – of MLK’s “I have a Dream” speech, you decide to run a piece by a old white guy who refuses to acknowledge the existence of racism.

Have you no shame or no decency?

    1. No, I did not remember the date. And despite that, I have decency, and credibility. Did you learn that elsewhere? Did you remember it on your own? I hope so. I have been too busy with the present to read or watch other news outlets for a history lesson. The difference is that I live a balanced life that never witnesses racism until I arrived to these shores and Dr. Martin Luther King was an inspiration. Some learned from his wisdom while others did not. It seems many today use his name irreverently. Living the life extolled by Dr. King is the issue, not remembering dates that many people not only don’t remember but don’t live, no matter the color of their skin, circumstance, or any other designation your may choose. Write to me when you intend no to shame but to rxtol issues of relevance, such as what did you do to live by the his conduct and example. If I am to be judged, I know that I would earn his friendship and respect were to I have ever gotten the opportunity to become acquainted with him, alas, that was not to be. — Kindly, Hezi

      1. There is no time to print racism.
You can’t justify it by saying we need to hear all sides.
Bob Weir spews racism and hatred.
I have been commenting on this site even before the NY Times featured it as the home of the “acid tongued bloggers.” I value the work you have done and the news that only you have uncovered.
But, if you continue to provide a platform to a bigoted, xenophobic and ignorant hate spewer, I will no longer use the YT.

        1. Thin skinned people. Whether you concur or not, your perspective is not the on;y one. I am not making a judgment call. You act like you are the parent of everyone who writes a comment or article contrary to yours. Not everyone wants nor needs to tow only one perspective because it suits your sensibility or mine. Respect the fact that we offer you disparate concepts that are worthy knowing whether you concur or not. I would hope you would engage what concerns you rather that depart this site. Life, perspectives, rationale, among other issues are of disparate hues. Get used to it, become engaged in that which you cannot fathom because it is different from yours. Perhaps you will learn how other think, and what and how the catalyst to their perspective is grounded. Too many people enjoy demonizing “others”. I would rather know than presume that only I am on the correct side of an issue. Thanks for you input. Kindly, Hezi

  3. So Bob doesn’t think racism is systemic in the US….guess what most Americans think it is….just another reason Joe Biden beats Trump in November…..

    1. If you believe Biden has a chance of beating Trump, I’m certain that you own a lot of swamp land in the desert. You probably purchased it in 2016 when all the leftists were positive that Hillary would be elected in a landslide. Those who ignore history are doomed to repeat it.

      1. I believe that Americans understand the damage that Trump has done and continues to do to our democracy…I believe a majority of Americans are sick and tired about reading of white police officers murdering black men ..I believe that a majority of Americans understand that Trump and his family have been and continue to financially benefit from his presidency…He has played golf every weekend at his own golf courses charging the US taxpayer for his secret service protection every week..I believe that a Majority of Americans understand what this President doesn’t seem to understand and that is we face danger from nations that are our adversaries looking to damage our democracy by infiltrating our social media platforms to spread disinformation on a daily basis in order to create dissension within the nation…The bi partisan Senate intelligence committee report not only bears this out going forward but reports hat Paul Manafort, while he was the campaign manager for Trump in the 2016 election gave internal polling data to Konstatin Kilimnik an identified Russian Intelligence officer and that he in turn gave that information to the bots and trols in St Petersberg who were working for the GRU and who placed no less than 184 million negative social media posts debasing Hillary Clinton and asking readers to either stay home, vote for third party candidates or vote for Trump…and considering that Trumps margin of Victory in three swing states Wisconsin Pennsylvania and Michigan was less than 1%, 77,000 total votes in all, that Russian intervention delivered the election to Trump…And to deal with your point about polling and the2016 election you seem not to understand the difference between 2016 and today….1. Trump and Clinton were both disliked..Trump won the votes of those who disliked both, This year Biden is crushing Trump in that category 2. Trump in 2016 was an unknown quantity and some people unfamiliar with his mafioso MO were willing to take a chance on him because of the TV celebrity and macho “your fired” persona he was able to project, today those same voters understand they were conned….many Trump supporters would vote for a tuna fish sandwich over Trump today, 3. The Lincoln project and other anti Trump REpublicans didn’t exist in 2016. They are a mix of Republican officer holders former US state department officials, former high profile political consultants and op ed writers who have always been conservatives..They uniformly oppose a second Term and they are spending millions of dollars on negative ads demonstrating that Trump is 1. a national security risk 2. unfit mentally to hold office 3. is a narcissistic bully 4. cow tows to Dictatorial strongmen like Putin Erdogan Xi and Bolsinaro and 5. has run a criminal enterprise all his adult life. 6.will be charged by various prosecutors both state and federal with multiple counts of tax fraud wire fraud and bank fraud….and finally 7. recent publications by his neice John Bolton, Michael Cohen and others coming your way before election day reveal Trump to be the most unfit President to ever have occupied the office…So do I think that Biden beats Trump…Yes indeed with over 370 electoral votes..maybe even over 400
