ALBANY, NY and YONKERS, NY — January 21, 2021 — The combination of MGM, Yonkers Raceway and the Empire City Casino in Yonkers is the city’s largest private employer and is a mainstay of the local economy, while providing millions of dollars to Yonkers Public Schools. So, State Assemblyman Nader Sayegh is pleased Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie has appointed him to the Assembly Committee on Racing and Wagering.
Panel Oversees Industry as New York Considers Mobile Sports Betting
“I will work closely with Committee Chair J. Gary Pretlow to ensure Yonkers is well represented on this committee which serves both an oversight role and is tasked with making sure New York’s gaming and racing facilities, like Empire City Casino and Yonkers Raceway, continue to thrive,” said Assemblyman Sayegh.
The Committee on Racing and Wagering will play a major role as New York State considers a path forward in Mobile Sports Betting. Sayegh will actively advocate the State Legislature to approve Mobile Sport Betting and Table Gaming Legislation, which would provide for an extensive increase in State revenue for education, health care and a multitude of quality-of- life initiatives.
Local gaming and racing industry officials welcomed news of Sayegh’s appointment.
“Empire City Casino is pleased to learn that Assemblyman Sayegh has been appointed to the Assembly Racing and Wagering Committee. He has demonstrated an acute understanding of the gaming and hospitality industry as a revenue generator for the state, as well as a job creator and economic engine for the region. We look forward to continuing to work with him to help Empire City reach its full potential.”
Joseph Faraldo, President of the Standardbred Owners Association based here in Yonkers said, “The Standardbred Owners Association would like to congratulate Assemblyman Nader Sayegh on his appointment to the Assembly Standing Committee on Racing and Wagering. We look forward to working with him and letting him know what we provide for all horsemen and women who race at Yonkers Raceway. It is nice to know that Nader has been a 60-year resident of Yonkers, the home of the historic Yonkers Raceway, which was founded in 1899.”
In addition to my appointment to the Assembly Racing and Wagering Committee Sayegh continues to serve on the Banking, Cities, Education, Health and Real Property Tax Committees, and continue as a member of the Black, Puerto Rican, Hispanic & Asian Legislative Caucus.
