TOWN OF BEDFORD, NY — January 7, 2021 — We condemn the attack on democracy we witnessed yesterday…

January 6th, 2021 was supposed to be a day that avowed the soundness of American democracy. Instead, it evolved into one of the most alarming in our nation’s history.
The attack on our Nation’s Capitol Building was equally an assault on a core pillar of our democracy.
These events are made all the more reprehensible because they were instigated by falsehoods that have been rejected by State and Federal courts across the country.
We are deeply disturbed and disheartened by these events and stand in total solidarity against the violent storming of the Capitol, a beacon of democracy that we hold most sacred. The Town Board of the Town of Bedford stands in total opposition to this destructive, divisive, and violent behavior.
We recognize that yesterday’s events will be a central topic of conversation between neighbors, colleagues, and children. We hope that the discussion will be honest and frank but more importantly model appropriate behavior of active and engaged citizens.
