FLOWER MOUND, TX — February 24, 2021 —   Do you ever get the feeling that our elected officials have nothing but disdain for their constituents? Do you feel that Republicans and Democrats are in a war with each other for dominance, while the American people are just onlookers in a spiteful and vindictive political tennis match? When you look at the 2-party system of government, each with opposing views concerning the direction of our country, it’s easy to conclude that we, the people, have very little input into our future. One President gets a tax cut passed, only to be overturned by his successor. Was it because the tax cut hurt the economy, or was it because his successor doesn’t want the opposition party to get credit? The same goes for numerous other policy changes each time the opposition political party gets control.

In other words, it’s not about us, it’s all about their petty grievances as each struggles for their individual conquests. We are no longer being governed; we’re being ruled. To be governed is to voluntarily put people in charge of the day-to-day management of services we need to function as an orderly society. Contrarily, to be ruled is to be subjected to the arbitrary power of those who have put themselves in positions of unchallenged authority. To understand the thinking of a ruling class one must begin by investigating how they developed such notions of superiority. People are not born with a belief system that steers them toward a given philosophy. Everything they become is based on what they’ve been taught to believe. Very often, that belief benefits them, politically and monetarily.

Let’s take an issue such as climate change. We all know people who are “experts” on the subject. They will tell you that the icebergs are melting into the sea and will eventually cause the oceans to rise, flooding entire cities and states, snuffing out the lives of millions. They’ll view every hurricane, tornado, earthquake and temperature fluctuation as “proof” that mankind is destroying the planet, primarily because of fossil fuel usage (although cow flatulence is not far behind, if you’ll excuse the pun). I’m always amazed at how intelligent these climate change adherents are. Without an exhaustive study in the field of the related disciplines, these pseudo-scientists, with not a scintilla of personally gained knowledge, will fiercely defend the imminent destruction of the planet against those they deem “deniers.”

How did they get so smart without traveling the world with due diligence, endeavoring to accumulate facts to sustain their theories? That friend of yours who has a career in sales management, or the guy with a degree in journalism, will try to impress you with his vast knowledge in the planetary sciences. Where did he obtain that esoteric awareness? Certainly not in the trenches of Icelandic expeditions and other arctic investigations. Instead, like the guy who plops himself in front of the television screen during a football game and yells plays to the quarterback, he’s become an armchair expert by watching liberal news coverage and reading left wing publications. In defending his position he’ll invariably tell you about the number of scientists who agree that the end is near, perhaps as close as 12 years, unless we end oil and gas drilling, coal mining and any other activity producing carbon content.

Frankly, I don’t know if the climate is changing in ways that will endanger our lives. I do know that those scientists who agree with that hypothesis are recipients of many lucrative government grants to continue their research. Those who disagree, not so much. Inasmuch as such research is driven by money, isn’t it possible that many scientists will ensure that their findings follow the cash flow? The environmental lobby is probably the most active and powerful influence in the federal government, spending countless millions to sway legislators to implement laws against fossil fuel use. Meanwhile China and other developing nations are contributing huge amounts of pollution into the atmosphere with impunity. China, the world’s largest contributor of CO2 emissions, is now emitting over 10 billion metric tons into the atmosphere (about twice that of the US), mainly from burning coal, needed to supply their electricity.

Has President Biden, John Kerry, Alexandria Ocasio Cortez, or any other Green New Deal fanatics taken on the Asian giant for their odious contributions to the demise of the planet? Not hardly! Obviously, there’s no political advantage in publicly chastising the country that has so many American politicians and corporations on its payroll. Moreover, it’s a good bet that China isn’t paying any of their scientists to say that fossil fuel is hazardous. I guess Xi Jinping has no expectation of living past the next 12 years.

  1. Well I thought my skin was going to burn off from acid rain in the 80’s at least I’m going to make it another 12 years, but I’m sure the will be another catastrophe to worry about then

  2. now that Rush is dead people like Weir feel the need to pick up the baton…and to villify every expert they can because if they do that there are plenty of gullible people with little or no higher education that they can pursuade…whether its Biden being a “socialist” or the deep freeze in texas “being caused by the green new deal” or Q Anon…or jewish lasers from space causing wild fires in california…there is just no end to their ability to confuse condone and conflate reasonable arguments with outlandish conspiracy theories…Why is it that those who have the least expertise in what ever area you chose are the ones who claim that their common sense trumps facts and truth…How did we get to this place where down is up and up is down…Limbaugh Hannity Ingraham Levin Carlson Waters and Pirro and lesser immitators don’t claim to be journalists..they don’t claim to have any obligation whatsoever to be guided by the facts…In fact in a recent lawsuit brought against Tucker Carlson a federal judge in the SDNY along with fox news’ own attorneys asserted that YOU CAN’T EXPECT TO LITERALLY BELIEVE THE WORDS THAT COME OUT OF CARLSON’S MOUTH….the judges opinion stated that the general tenor of the show should inform a viewer that Carlson is not stating actual facts about the topics he discusses and is instead engaging in exageration and non literal commentary. the Judge wrote ” Fox argues pursuasively that given mr carlsons reputation any reasonable viewer arrives with an appropriate amount of skepticism about the statement he makes. and .yet people still watch and regurgitate the nonsense he spews as facts and Mr Weir does exactly the same thing….

  3. the put down of real science continues….Weir is questioning the providence of the “experts” of which almost 100% agree about the threat of climate change…those who are closest to the scene eg the mayors of coastal cities know the danger and have taken steps to mitigate the threat as much as they can within limited resources…The entire world understands that climate change can totally change the way we live and whether we survive..But yet Bob Weir and other climate deniers mostly in the republican party want us to do nothing…So here is the choice..Spend the money and we are wrong then we waste the money…Fail to spend the money and we are right then waste the world..

    1. Those who believe the world only has 12 years left have become so neurotic that they’ve lost any sense of reason. You gotta feel sorry for these gullible children.

  4. This is good, a former racist cop explaining climate change. Every article is just him expanding on some conservative talking point that really grinds his gears. Everything bothers him, but he’s be the first one to call someone a snowflake.

    1. It must be great to be a liberal today because you can have your own facts and opinions as you casually virtue signal and randomly accuse random targets of being “racist.” A liberal gay relative of mine from the Upper West Side of Manhattan just did that to me for waiting to get the vaccine absolutely bizarre. I just responded “in 1989 during morning rush hour I jumped on the live express track at 149/3rd to save a black wino. My out of shape partner couldn’t help me but a young Hispanic construction worker did. Have you or any of your woke progressive white liberal friends ever done that?” As a retired nypd detective myself and Bob have helped and saved countless people regardless of who or what they are or were.
I hated dealing with white liberals because they were the most neurotic racist people possible because they treat minorities as political pets that need their insightful assistance because they’re somehow inferior to the over educated liberals who have never done a hard day’s work in their lives. You talk critique and write about the things that Bob and I have actually done with a split second to react. You now have your wish you’ve defunded the police and crime in NYC is back with a vengeance and predators look for easy targets like you not Bob and I. You see you can’t fool city cops because we’ve done and seen more in an hour than you have in a lifetime. By the way whatever happened to the impending “Ice Age” they rambled about in the 1970’s 😳👀🤣

      1. I’m pretty sure the commenter above was referring to the authors past racist ramblings, not this “article”. Seems like they touched a nerve if you’re that defensive. The fact that you have to brag that you helped people of a different race while you were a police officer is pretty telling. You were literally doing the job you were paid to do by taxpayers, in a profession that you chose. Sounds like you just need a hug, now that’s a liberal trait, sorry. Congrats on the climatology degree!

        1. That is the best response I’ve read in a long while. The guy doesn’t want to get vaccined, doesn’t want to acknowledge climate change and fashions himself a hero for doing his job. Funny how he sees everything …

    2. Typically, when one can’t win the argument, the race card comes out. Weir is correct when he says all these indoctrinated “experts” only know what they’ve been told by the fake news media and the left wing socialists who want to convince people that the end is near and they need an ever larger government to protect them.

    1. ” They’ll view every hurricane, tornado, earthquake and temperature fluctuation as “proof” that mankind is destroying the planet”, he does in this statement.

I personally care very deeply about the environment but as I commented before he has a point. We absolutely need to change our habits as a species on this earth, but we also need to change our analytical thinking in this country on how we tackle situations. I don’t think people do their homework anymore. I obviously don’t know who I am replying to, but some of the popular claims pushed by climate activists, politicians, and mainstream media today are not backed up at all. There is a middle ground. It is like a sick man being told by the doctor to eat well, diet, and exercise, which is obviously always a good idea, but you still need to examine the person, run some tests, and give an accurate diagnosis. Researching the problem, and finding anything that they do not want to hear has been labeled as something radical these days. That is how we get comments like yours that reinforce this broken system.

      1. No, he actually didn’t address the catastrophic failure in his home state of Texas from which he is presumeably writing, which is sad as well as tremendously cynical in a piece that purports to address (recent) climate change. The sentence you quote is nothing but a general statement that can apply to or mean virtually anything and, as such, is meaningless.

        1. Once again, the indoctrinated will fail to look at history, preferring to label every weather anomaly as climate change. What happened in Texas is actually a good reason to abandon the Green New Deal nonsense. Those wind turbines, which were supposed to be a backup for the fossil fuel generated grid, became frozen in the recent deep freeze in Texas. By the way, the same frigid temperatures occurred in Texas about 75 years ago, which underscores what many scientists say about reoccurring weather patterns that have nothing to do with climate change. I suppose there may have been some nut cases 75 years ago that said the deep freeze in Texas meant that the planet only had 12 years left to survive. It’s sad how many people are convinced of something they know nothing about.

          1. Wind turbines run in sub-zero temperatures in Alaska, Canada and northern Europe. They froze in Texas because the energy companies didn’t invest in weatherization and ice protection. Profits over people.

And wind accounts for just under 20% of Texas’s electricity. Nuclear and gas wells also froze, but they account for twice as much of Texas’s capacity. Blame ERCOT and short-sighted politicians and energy companies for this catastrophic failure.

Our country has the best engineers in the world, and they design turbines to run in the most extreme conditions on earth. The fact that turbines, gas wells and a nuclear power plant all failed is the result of greedy, short-sighted corporations, energy companies and politicians.

  5. Well said , so much is unknown scientist in the artic have taken ice core samples and found that our planet might be in a cyclic cycle when it comes to global temperature. Elon musk has brought this up in talks , saying how the industrial revolution may have saved us from an ice age. Our planet was carbon deficient before the Industrial revolution. Yes we need to take care of it, yes we need cleaner ways to survive, and yes I agree that we are being ruled and these politicians are full of shit.

    1. One need not agree with everything on this website. What a thinking person does not deny is a thirst to know what others are thinking and why. Even so, I respect your perspective. You may disagree, but this Website has not lost any credibility with Mr. Weir’s input.

P.S. If. You have what it takes, I would welcome your perspective, whatever that may be

    2. You discredit yourself by pretending to be a climate scientist who knows that the earth will disintegrate in 12 years. Like Mr. Weir said, you’re one of those people indoctrinated by the left wing propaganda, so there’s no use trying to reason with you.
