KATONAH, NY — January 5, 2022 — We hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season; apparently, I was a bit naughty last year, as Santa jammed enough coal in my stocking to heat all of Katonah…

Once again, I have out smarted myself by making my New Year’s resolution, not to make any resolutions, just saying that I broke the resolution, so please sit back and enjoy this week’s “resolution free” edition of “News & Notes.”

Now here’s a good New Year’s resolution, our friends at the Katonah Bedford Hills Volunteer Ambulance Corps are looking for new members.  KBHVAC provides all the training and no experience is necessary.

The Bedford Hills Free Library will open their Little Owls Book Club on Friday, January 21 at 4 p.m. via Zoom. Children grades K-2 are invited to join this monthly program that combines a book club with a themed story time.

The good folks at the Paramount Hudson Valley Theater in Peekskill are holding a Red Cross Blood Drive on January 11 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Here’s some exciting news, the Community Center of Northern Westchester has opened their Community Studio, in the Katonah Shopping Center. This enables the Center to resume holding their workforce development classes for their clients in a large studio setting with more space, better ventilation and improved safety for all. Classes and workshops include job counseling and job skills training, such as sewing and design, construction skills, OSHA certification, language & computer skills and entrepreneurship training. The retail space for showcasing and selling student artistry is open with varied hours as they pilot this exciting project. Every sale will lift a person facing financial hardship.

As you may know I really enjoy alliteration, so this event caught my eye…The Katonah Village Library presents on Zoom “Felted Forest Friends Keychains,” you will learn how to hand sew some adorable forest animal key chains.  They will provide the felt shapes, key chain and instructions; you will need to provide just thread and a needle, for children ages 7 – 10.  Materials can be picked up beginning Monday, January 10.

Lasdon Park will hold a learning program on feeding birds this season, come and discover the many ways you can help to feed birds this winter. The program will be held on January 16 at 2 p.m. in the Shop at the Lasdon building. Masks and registration are required as seating is limited, call 914-864-7263 for more information.

Looks like I will be working on my Olympic style skiing, mostly from the lodge as Thunder Ridge Ski Area is now open. Located in the rolling hills of Patterson with 22 trails, 3 chairlifts and 4 magic carpets, they have slow and gentle slopes to meet the needs of the newest skiers and snowboarders and advanced trails for the daring and adventurous.  With day and night skiing and riding, it’s a mountain of fun for the whole family.

A New Year’s toast with great cheer and a big thank you to all essential personnel who are on the job, health care workers, first responders, truck drivers, grocery store workers, anyone out there on the front line, thank you for your dedication, your service and being there for all of us!

I want to wish everyone a happy, healthy and prosperous new year…Happy 2022!
